Captain Profile: Manfred Alanis

This month, we’re spotlighting the captain of one of our larger charter vessels, the Satis Fly. Meet the captain, Manfred Alanis, below and learn more about his favorite fish to catch, and why he loves working at Maverick Costa Rica!

How long have you been a captain with Maverick Costa Rica?

I have been a charter captain for about 4 years now.

What is your favorite part of the boat you are a captain of Satis Fly?

This is a hard one. I don't think I have a favorite part honestly. From where I sit, I love every part of Satis Fly. She’s a newer boat that has all of the latest technology and gear. What’s not to love! In fact, I love everything about my job.

What is your favorite fish to catch?

Well, considering we’re in Costa Rica, I think I would have to say Blue Marlin.

Do you have a favorite experience as a captain?

There are so many great experiences! Of course, working with and getting to meet guests from all over the world is really cool. But I think the best, so far, has been the opportunity to captain a brand new boat.

Tell us about your family - are you married? Do you have children?

I feel so lucky, God has given me the best family! I have a wife, and we’re fortunate enough to have both a son and a daughter.

Outside of fishing, what is the #1 thing guests should do while they are in Costa Rica?

Apart from fishing, guests have the opportunity to do so many activities. In fact, I would make sure to do more than just one activity and try out a few things because in Costa Rica, everything is pure life!
