An Unbeatable Day On The Water

The single best word to describe my trip aboard the Pacific Fly is…WOW! Captain Minor, Kevin and Iand are absolutely top-notch (in every way)!
Upon my arrival at the Maverick office the morning of my trip, I was greeted nicely, offered coffee and was escorted to the location to meet Captain Minor and buy a fishing license. A few minutes later, I had my license for the week and I was again escorted directly to the boat. I was a little early, but the crew as ready to ride!
After about an hour running, we pulled into a big pod of dolphin. Mates Kevin and Iand were quick to get bait in the water, and in no time, we had a Yellowfin Tuna peeling off line and I was working a nearly doubled over rod. That fish would come in at about 45 pounds and would be my largest tuna ever!...so I was super pumped!! We caught two more tuna from that location, and then it got better.
We hooked up with a nice 125-pound Sailfish and got it released. A short time later, we hooked up with a Dorado (maybe 30 pounds). So, at that point, I had Tuna and Mahi for a “Hook and Cook” dinner…and then it got even better!
The line really started to peel on one of the big rigs, and we all knew there was a powerful fish on! This time, instead of standing, I was in the chair. After about 30 minutes of fighting this fish, they put a harness on so I could finish bringing up “Big Boy.” When that Tuna finally did come up, they both gaffed it, but nearly couldn’t get it over the side into the boat. But they did, and it turned out to be a really nice 180-pound fish! Now…with that Tuna still on the deck, we had another line start off with another nice Sailfish! Crazy!! And, then we would catch one more sail before the day was over.
